Biography

Sheikh Nur Muḥammad Qadiri (RA) was born into a family of mystics belonging to the Qadiriyya silsila, known for its emphasis on devotion and scholarship. From a young age, he displayed deep spiritual insight and detachment from worldly pursuits.

He studied under Sheikh Muḥammad Faẓil Zunimari (RA) and later established his own khanqah at Noorbagh, which became a prominent spiritual centre for seekers from across Kashmir.

Sheikh Nur Muḥammad’s khanqah became known for its open-door policy – “no seeker was ever turned away.” His disciples were instrumental in spreading the Qadiriyya teachings throughout central and south Kashmir.

He passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of piety and service. His shrine at Noorbagh continues to attract devotees of all backgrounds.

Legends and Oral Tradition

According to local oral tradition, during a severe drought, Sheikh Nur Muḥammad (RA) prayed for rain and the valley received showers immediately – an event seen as a sign of divine favour. While unverified historically, it remains a key part of his devotional legacy.
