Biography

Sheikh Abdul Ghafur Qadiri (RA) was born into a spiritually inclined family in Rainawari, Srinagar. From early childhood, he was known for his modesty and love of learning. He studied Arabic, Persian, Quranic sciences, and theology before committing himself to the spiritual path under Sheikh Muḥammad Ishaq Qadiri (RA).

He later founded the Khanqah-e-Ghafuri, which became an active centre of Qadiri spirituality and public welfare.

The Khanqah-e-Ghafuri grew into a respected site for devotional gatherings, Quran lessons, and Sufi study circles. His disciples spread widely across central Kashmir, strengthening Qadiri presence in the region.

Legacy and Shrine

The saint is buried within the khanqah complex at Rainawari. His Urs remains one of the most well-attended Qadiri commemorations in Srinagar, reflecting his enduring influence.

Legends and Oral Tradition

Local tradition recounts that during a harsh winter, his prayer brought warmth to the valley for three days. As with many hagiographic motifs, it symbolises perceived spiritual authority.
