Biography

Mirwaiz Yusuf Shāh (RA) was one of Kashmir’s most influential religious figures of the 20th century. Educated at the Oriental College, Lahore, and trained in classical Islamic sciences -Quran, Hadith, jurisprudence, and Persian literature - he soon emerged as a distinguished preacher and intellectual.

He became the Mirwaiz of Kashmir, succeeding the earlier line of hereditary preachers at the Jamia Masjid, Srinagar. His sermons drew immense crowds, and he became a unifying voice for moral instruction, spirituality, and communal guidance.

He was also a noted poet, composing in Persian, Urdu, and Kashmiri, with verses reflecting spiritual longing, ethical counsel, and cultural sensitivity.
