Saint of the Qadiriyya order; connected to the southern Kashmiri Qadiri lineage descending from Mir Nimatullah Qadiri (RA).
Mir Sayyid Raḥman Qadiri (RA) was born into a respected Sayyid family and received an excellent education in the Quran, Hadith, Persian literature, and ethics. Deeply inclined toward spirituality, he entered the Qadiriyya order under a successor of Sayyid Muḥammad Ali Qadri Baba (RA).
His gentle manners, ascetic temperament, and wisdom attracted students throughout south Kashmir, establishing him as a major Qadiri authority in the region.
Devotion to God through zikr, prayer, and service
Rejection of ostentation and materialism
Faith in ethical leadership and moral reform
Emphasis on hospitality and compassion, especially toward the vulnerable
He established a zawiya in Anantnag, which became a thriving Qadiri centre known for its charitable kitchen, manuscript study circles, and nightly remembrance gatherings. Many later Qadiri teachers of south Kashmir trace their lineage directly to him.
His shrine in Anantnag is an active spiritual site, especially during his Urs, which features readings from his Persian devotional verses and Qadiri litanies.
Local accounts relate that a barren orchard near his residence bore fruit after his prayers – a symbolic expression of divine blessing in regional memory.
