Biography

Born at Fateh Kadal, Sheikh Muḥammad Abdullah (RA) belonged to a family deeply rooted in Sufi learning. He studied grammar, jurisprudence, Hadith, and Persian texts before joining the Qadiriyya order under a successor of Sheikh Ishaq Qadiri (RA).

He later became the custodian of the Khanikah-i-Qadiriyya, which had historically served as one of Srinagar’s most important Sufi institutions.

Institutions and Legacy

Under his leadership, the Khanikah-i-Qadiriyya expanded its influence through teaching circles, night-time devotional gatherings, literacy programs, and community kitchens that supported the poor. He also encouraged preservation of classical Kashmiri manuscripts.

Legacy and Shrine

Sheikh Abdullah Qadiri (RA) is buried within the khanqah complex. His Urs remains one of the major Qadiri observances in the old city of Srinagar, attended by scholars, Qadiri faqirs, and the general public.

 

Legends and Oral Tradition

Local tradition recounts that his presence calmed disputes among feuding families, earning him the title ‘Muslih-e-Daran’ (the reconciler of households)
