Biography

Born in north Kashmir, Makhdoom Muḥammad Yusuf (RA) displayed early promise as a scholar and ascetic. He travelled to Srinagar for advanced studies, where he was initiated into the Qadiriyya order.

His contemplative temperament and strict adherence to Sharia earned him respect among both scholars and common folk.

He later settled at Kralpora, where he dedicated his life to teaching and spiritual guidance.

He established a zawiya (small hospice) in Kralpora which became a hub for Sufi study circles. His disciples further carried the Qadiri teachings into remote regions of Kupwara and Lolab.

Legacy and Shrine

His shrine at Kralpora remains a site of regional pilgrimage. Annual urs rituals include public recitation of the Qadiri wird and communal meals.

Legends and Oral Tradition

Regional oral narratives claim that springs near his settlement flowed more abundantly after his prayers – a symbolic depiction of spiritual blessing common in Kashmiri hagiography.
