Biography

Sheikh Muḥammad Faẓil Zunimari (RA) was born into a devout family known for piety and scholarship. From an early age, he displayed extraordinary intellect and humility. He mastered Arabic, Persian, logic, and jurisprudence, earning the title Faẓil (the erudite).

His spiritual journey began under the guidance of Mir Muḥammad Afẓal (RA), from whom he received formal training in the Naqshbandiyya order – a tradition emphasising silent remembrance (dhikr-i khafi) and strict adherence to the Sunnah.

Sheikh Muḥammad Faẓil Zunimari (RA) devoted his life to teaching and guiding seekers. His Khanqah at Zunimar became a hub of Naqshbandi practice and education. After his passing, his disciples continued his work, preserving his emphasis on inner discipline and humility.

Legends and Oral Tradition

Local tradition holds that Sheikh Faẓil (RA) performed his prayers standing in the cold waters of Dal Lake during winter as an act of purification and endurance. This reflects the ascetic ideal rather than historical record, emphasising his devotion and self-control.
